9. The event offered shoppers a sneak preview and tasting of favorite
gourmet holiday foods, all prepared by Whole Foods chefs. The event raised
nearly $2,300 for the Action Center! Thanks to Whole Foods Market-Belmar
for hosting the event, all the volunteers who helped that night and everyone
who attended!
9Cares CO Shares Summer
Food Drive
With sunshine, vacations, and fun-most people don't think about the hungry
during the summertime. But for some, summer is the "hungriest time
of the year" because many low income families depend on the federal
free and low-cost meal programs, to feed their children lunch and often
breakfast. When the school year ends, families must pick up the cost of
feeding their children
and often they turn to food banks like Jeffco
Action Center to help fill the gap.
On June 16, 9Cares Colorado Shares Summer Drive collected food and clothing
at the 9NEWS Studios and at locations up and down the Front Range. Jeffco
Action Center is one of the designated food banks that received food from
the drive. Get more info at the 9Cares
Colorado Shares website.

Matter fundraising breakfast on May 9 was a huge success with
over 500 friends and supporters in attendance and nearly $400,000
raised -- a new record!
Each year, the breakfast showcases the Action Center's programs
and many accomplishments over the past year. The one-hour event
has become one of the key ways to let the community know about the
Action Center and allows us to continue all the good work we do,
expand services and programs, and implement new ones. For information
about next year's breakfast, call Joe Haines at 303-237-7704, ext.
204 or send email.

9Cares
Colorado Shares Food Drive a Huge Success with a Record 59,068 Pounds
of Food Donated
For 25 years, 9NEWS has teamed up with the community to
collect food for less fortunate Coloradoans at the 9Cares Colorado Shares
food drive. Even though all of the results aren't in yet, this year's
9Cares Colorado Shares Food Drive, held on June 17, has already surpassed
the record, collecting more than 59,068 pounds of food or 29.5 tons of
food for the hungry. Last year we collected 41,304 pounds (20.7 tons)
of food. All of the food collected during the drive will be distributed
to a network of food pantries along the Front Range, including the Jeffco
Action Center. For more information, visit the 9Cares

| Good Times at the Good News Breakfast |
The mission of the Good News Coalition is to bring Jefferson County
citizens together to celebrate the positive happenings and spiritual
values that link our diverse communities. On April 25, the GNC held
its annual Good News Celebration Breakfast at the Jefferson County
Fairgrounds to do just that. This year's theme was, "Turning
Vision Into Action" and highlighted people and organizations
that dream big and turn those dreams into reality.
As part of the program, Lindsay Hornbecker, an Action Center high
school food bank volunteer, led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Action Center's "Where Action Matters" video was also
shown at the event, introduced by Executive Director Mag Strittmatter.
Jefferson County Church Women United, the founding organization
of the Action Center was one of this year's special honorees. Back
in 1968, Jefferson County Church Women United, a Christian women's
movement, saw that many low income residents were lacking basic
services such as food, clothing, and housing. They developed the
Jeffco Action Center whose mission was to provide an immediate response
to basic human needs of Jefferson County homeless and low-income
residents. Thirty eight years later, these dedicated women still
hold fundraisers and provide volunteers to support the Action Center.

| Another Breakfast Fundraising Success! |
|
|
|
The Jeffco Action Center's third annual Where Action Matters fundraising
breakfast was another huge success, raising over $300,000, with
465 friends and supporters in attendance! The breakfast, held on
May 17 at the Belmar Center Grand Ballroom in Lakewood, showcased
the Action Center's programs and many accomplishments over the past
year.
A new video was unveiled, made possible by the generosity of Peak
Creative Media Services. Following the video, two former clients
shared their experiences, Anna Davis and Ron Sanchez, recounting
how they each received life-saving help from the Action Center.
The one-hour breakfast has become one of the key ways to let the
community know about the Action Center and its programs. The success
of the breakfasts allows us to continue all the good work we do,
expand services and programs, and implement new ones. Thanks to
all the donors, volunteers, speakers and staff who made the breakfast
such a huge success!

Lakewood
Post Office Food Drive
Once again the Lakewood Post Office collected food as part
of the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Food Drive - the

food items donated by postal customers. This year's drive on Saturday,
May 13 collected over 18,000 pounds of food for the Action Center! Thank
you, Colorado and NALC!

Colorado Shares Summer Food Drive |
|

|
|
|
Hunger is a year-round problem. For the 22nd year, 9NEWS asked
the community to help restock food banks across the metro area during
the 9Cares Colorado Shares Summer Food Drive and they delivered!
This year's drive on Saturday, June 18th collected 94,304 pounds
of food and $12,392 in cash gifts. The Denver drop-off site also
collected 26,340 pounds of clothing. Thank you, Colorado!
While many Coloradoans think of the hungry during the holidays,
summer is actually the hardest time of the year for food banks to
keep food on their shelves. When school lets out, many of the families
that depend on free or low-cost hot lunch programs during the school
year are forced to find a new way to feed their children. Food banks
say the situation is only exacerbated because of a drop in food
donations during the summer months.
Jeffco Action Center is a recipient agency of this drive. The food
we receive helps to feed thousands of neighbors in Jefferson County
during the summer. If you missed out and would still like to contribute
to the drive, visit the 9News 9Cares
Colorado Shares website.

| Where Action Matters
Breakfast Outshines Last Year's Event |
| |
|
|
| On May 24, 2005, over 600 people filled
the new Belmar Center Grand Ballroom to hear about the Jeffco Action
Center's accomplishments and strategies for the future. Many in the
room were moved to tears when former clients took the stage to share
how the Action Center helped them through difficult times. We are
happy to report that the generosity of attendees was overwhelming.
Donations generated from the event surpassed last year's total and
the pledges are still coming in. We are eternally grateful to our
supporters and are proud to be a part of such a giving community.
If you were unable to attend this year's breakfast and would like
to receive an invitation for next year, please send email
or call Warren Greene at 303-237-7704, ext. 203. |

Where Action Matters Breakfast Surpassed All Fundraising
Goals
|
The Jeffco Action Center held its biggest event fundraiser ever
on May 25, 2004. The Sheraton Denver West ballroom was filled to
capacity with new friends of the Action Center and long-time supporters.
Attendees were captivated by the stories of current and former clients
as well as the agency's vision for the future. The event surpassed
all fundraising goals and also marked the launch of the "Self-Sufficiency
Society," a new multi-year giving program intended to ensure
the longevity of the agency. Over 400 people attended the breakfast,
donating over $265,000 in one-time gifts and 5-year pledges! Next
year's event is sure to be just as powerful. If you are interested
in being a Table Host, send email
or call Mag Strittmatter at 303-237-7704, ext. 204.
