Crisis Counselor

Responsible for mental health counseling, referrals and disbursement of funds for client services programs at Jeffco Action Center. Provides crisis counseling and intensive case management. This position starts at 32 hours per week and is full-time July 1, 2008.

Summary
Responsible for mental health counseling, referrals and disbursement of funds for client services programs at Jeffco Action Center. Provides crisis counseling and intensive case management. This position will start at 32 hours per week and will become full-time July 1, 2008.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Interview and assist clients with emergency assistance requests according to established procedures.Provide crisis counseling and intensive case management ranging with special focus on people experiencing homelessness.
Part of team distributing rent and utility funds.
Coordinate client application for special funds.
Provide back-up to Manager of Client Services for problem situations with clients.
Research and write client referral guides to other service providers.
Assist in program development and problem solving.
In accordance to agency policies, goals and mission, implements procedures for client service programs and grants.
Works closely with all staff, clients, and volunteers throughout the agency.


Other Duties
. Maintain good working relations with other emergency services providers, donors and community.
. Keep other counselors informed of program activities, progress and difficulties.
. Maintain good communication with other staff and supervisor.
. Maintain daily records and program documentation as instructed.
. May represent Jeffco Action Center, Inc. to the community as assigned to build support for the mission of the Action Center.
- Interaction with clients of Jeffco Action Center will require an awareness of and dedication to addressing human needs.
. All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Masters degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or other human services field or a Bachelors degree with equivalent work experience.
Minimum of one year experience in counseling.
Experience in diagnosis and treatment of mental health issues.
Good organizational skills, ability to exercise initiative, judgment and work independently.
Relate well to clients, volunteers, professional service provider staff, staff and general public Must be a Team Player.
Experience in conflict resolution.

Supervisory Responsibilities
At request of Manager of Client Services, may supervises client services volunteers and interns in their duties.
Physical Demands
The work will involve normal physical activity associate with office and food/clothing bank environment. Some lifting and related physical activity associated with food/clothing bank may be required. Will select and carry household goods from dock to lobby. Travel by car will be required on occasion.

Will disburse funds in accordance with grant requirements and Jeffco Action Center procedures.

Overnight Sunday and Substitute Homeless Shelter Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY: The homeless shelter Sunday night and substitute coordinator supervises homeless residents staying in the shelter, enforces shelter regulations and reward systems, maintains records, and manages facility. The shelter coordinator provides relief for shelter overnight shifts. Sunday night shift starts at 4:45 pm and ends at 7:00 am. Substitute coverage will vary.

HOURS: Part-time position Sunday overnights and Substitute coverage as needed.

REQUIREMENTS:
" High School degree or equivalent.
" Six months experience working in homeless shelter or human service organization.
" Ability and Willingness to train on HMIS system and provide weekly client data entry.
" Good organizational skills, ability to exercise initiative, judgment and work independently.
" Experience and/or knowledge in conflict resolution.
" Ability to maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive information.
" Flexibility in managing time and ability to work independently.
" Relate well to clients, volunteers, professional service provider staff, other staff and general public.
" Ability to work well with people of varied experiences, attitudes and backgrounds
" Ability to function as a cooperative and effective team player.
